Standard Pallet Sizes & Dimensions – All You Need To Know

Table of Contents

(Last Updated On: 2021年12月23日)

A pallet is a flat solid wood structure designed to support goods and other materials. It has many standard sizes and dimensions that allow the goods to be handled efficiently and safely by forklifts and conveyor belts.

Pallets come in several different sizes and styles to suit individual needs. The size you need depends on warehousing, storage, and transportation requirements. It is important to understand the size differences between them to decide which one to use for your specific needs.

Pallets are also an integral part of the global supply chain. They provide safe, secure, and efficient handling for distribution centers, manufacturing plants, and retail stores the world over.

Types of Pallets

There are three main types of pallets:

  1. Block Pallet– A block pallet has a four-way entry type of pallet. It helps forklifts move around on all sides. It has 12 wooden posts, and these keep it stable. The cylindrical posts help create a distinction between the bottom and the top of the deck.
  2. Stringer pallets– The stringers hold up the loads for a pallet. These are found between the bottom and top boards on both sides of the pallet. They provide more support than block pallets because there are two boards that run between the bottom and top decks instead of just one. This blocks entry from either end but also allows for bearing more weight.

How do Size & Dimensions of Pallets Determine Weight Carry Capacity?

The weight capacity of a pallet is determined by the size and materials that are used to make it. A pallet can be made of different materials such as wood,

plastic, and metal. The type of material used to make the pallet will determine its durability and sturdiness.

The standard dimensions for a pallet are 48″ x 40″. This is the optimum size for a pallet because it can carry a maximum of 4,600 lbs while occupying minimum space. However, different size pallets are used according to the task at hand.

The Price of Shipping Pallets

Shipping pallets come in a variety of sizes, and each size has its own price. Pallets that are larger in size will naturally cost more to ship than those that are smaller. The dimensions of the pallet also affect the price. Standard Pallets that are square or rectangle in shape are generally less expensive to ship than those that are odd-shaped—the more standard the dimensions of a pallet, the lower the cost of shipping.

Use and Application of Pallets of Different Size & Dimensions

Pallets are used for a variety of applications, depending on their size and dimensions. The most common uses are for shipping and storage. However, pallets can also be used for manufacturing and construction purposes.

Shipping Pallets:

Standard pallet sizes are typically used for shipping products. The uniform size and weight of a pallet allow goods to be efficiently and safely transported by forklifts and conveyor belts. Pallets that are larger in size can support heavier loads, making them ideal for shipping large or heavy items.

Storage Pallets:

Storage pallets are typically smaller in size than shipping pallets. This allows businesses to save on space when storing inventory. Storage pallets can also be stacked on top of each other, which maximize storage capacity.

Construction Pallets:

Construction pallets are typically larger in size than both shipping and storage pallets. This allows builders and contractors to move large amounts of materials quickly and easily. Construction pallets are also often made from durable materials, such as hardwood, that can withstand heavy loads.

Manufacturing Pallets:

Manufacturing pallets are typically made to order and can come in a variety of sizes and dimensions. This allows manufacturers to create pallets that are specifically tailored to fit the needs of their business. Manufacturing pallets are often used for transporting parts and components between different stages of the production process.

Standard Pallet Size

The standard pallet size and dimensions vary depending on the region. Before ordering a pallet, you’ll need to know the local standard pallet size and dimensions. You can find this information below:

Standard Pallet Size & Dimensions in North America

The standard pallet size in the USA is 48″x40″. The other popular sizes are 48″x48″, and 42″x42″.

Understanding the different standard pallet sizes and dimensions is important when choosing a pallet. For example, the standard pallet size for construction is 48″x48″. It can support a weight capacity of up to 3,700 pounds.

If you are looking for a pallet that is specific to your needs, you can order custom pallets.

Standard Pallet Size & Dimensions in Australia

The Australian standard pallet dimensions are slightly different than the standard pallet dimensions in the USA. The Australian standard pallet size is 45.9″x45.9″ and can support a weight capacity of up to 4000 lbs.

Standard Pallet Size & Dimensions in Europe

European standard pallet dimensions are also different than the standard pallet dimensions in the USA. The European standard pallet size is 31.5″×47.2″. It can support a weight capacity of up to 3,300 lbs.

ISO Pallets Dimensions

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has developed a standard pallet size and dimensions.

There are six pallet sizes that the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) recognizes. These are not industry-specific, but their region of use, and they can be exchanged between regions. These sizes and their dimensions are given below:

Dimensions, inches (W × L)

Dimensions, mm (W x L) Region

42.00 × 42.00

1067 x 1067 North America, Europe, Asia

48.00 × 40.00

1219 x 1016 North America

44.88 × 44.88

1140 x 1140 Australia

39.37 × 47.24

1000 x 1200 Europe, Asia

31.50 × 47.24

800 x 600 Europe

43.30 × 43.30

1100 x 1100 Asia

CP Pallets

The German Chemicals Industry Association (VCI) originally developed the CP Pallets scheme in the early 1990s. The CP Pallets are for the chemical industry only. They belong to a pallet exchange system, and the wood can be repaired. The CP standards describe the wood’s quality, measurements, markings, and how it is repaired. Pallet blocks have markings like “producer’s code, year of production, and possible date of repair.”

There are nine different sizes that CP Pallets can be. You might see “CP1, CP2, CP3” and so on.
